The Research Administration BI dashboards encompass both pre-award and post-award research funding data.

Principal Investigator Dashboard

Navigate directly to the Principal Investigator Dashboard in BI. 

The Principal Investigator Dashboard is designed to provide users access to accounting statements and other reports for their research projects, including:

  • High-level summary reports of a researcher’s entire research portfolio.
  • Labour Distribution.
  • Detailed reports showing individual transactions.
  • Project supplemental data.

The Principal Investigator Dashboard is designed to be used in tandem with the Research Project Statement.

Research Accountants have access to additional research accounting reports including:

  • Form 300 Bulk Generation (PDF or Excel)
  • An enhanced Research Project Summary for Form 300 reporting.
  • Pre-formatted tables for Form 300 submission.

Users of the Principal Investigator Dashboard include:

  • Researchers
  • Delegates
  • Research Accountants
  • Department Chairs and Administrators
  • Deans & Faculty Directors of Finance and Administration
  • Other Faculty Administrators
  • Central Research Office staff

Security for the Principal Investigator Dashboard is identical to the security for research projects in Mosaic.

All users with access to the Principal Investigator Dashboard also have access to the Research Project Statement.

In many cases, access to the Principal Investigator Dashboard is granted automatically based on a research project’s listed project team (PIs, Delegates).

To request access to the Principal Investigator Dashboard in BI for administrative users, please use the Finance Security eForm (in Mosaic, go to HR and Finance eForms in top center menu, then Finance Position Security tile).  See Instructions section for details on completing the eForm.

Access to Labour Distribution reports can be requested by contacting Financial Affairs (Chris Sylvester, sylvest@mcmaster.ca). Please provide your McMaster User ID (MacID), the complete chart field for which you need access (Fund Code, Department Code, Project Number), and copy the Principal Investigator of the project on the email.

Access to the Principal Investigator Dashboard and Research Project Statement are granted simultaneously and do not need to be requested separately.

Access to Form 300 content is granted to automatically to research accountants. If you do not have access to this content and want to request access, please contact Sam Petryk (petrykss@mcmaster.ca).

Research Project Statement

Navigate directly to the Research Project Statement in BI.

The Research Project Statement in BI is intended to recreate and enhance the nVision Research Project Statement in Mosaic. Enhancements include:

  • Additional transaction details
  • Labour Distribution
  • Alerts and transaction details for projects using the Accounts Receivable module in Mosaic.

The Research Project Statement in BI is designed to be used in tandem with the Principal Investigator Dashboard.

Users of the Research Project Statement include:

  • Researchers
  • Delegates
  • Research Accountants
  • Department Chairs and Administrators
  • Deans & Faculty Directors of Finance and Administration
  • Other Faculty Administrators

The Research Administration Dashboard is designed to provide Faculty & Department leadership with an overview of their faculty members research awards and activities. Available reports include:

  • Summaries of research funding applications and awards, broken down by sponsor.
  • Success rates for key funding programs.
  • University-level benchmarks for research awards key performance indicators.
  • Summary reports on research expenditures by Faculty or Department.

Users of the Research Administration Dashboard include:

  • Deans
  • Associate Deans of Research
  • Faculty Directors of Finance and Administration
  • other Faculty administrators
  • Department Chairs and Administrators
  • Central Research Office staff

Security for the Research Administration Dashboard restricts users to seeing results for only their own Faculty or Department.

  • University executives and research office staff may see all Faculties and Departments
  • Deans and Faculty administrators may see only their own Faculty
  • Department Chairs and administrators may see only their own Department.
