Introduction

The Office of Institutional Research and Analysis (IRA) models data on students, faculty and staff, to provide meaningful analyses and insightful BI analytics information to the McMaster community. Other activities include the preparation of the McMaster Postsecondary Financial Information System-University Statistical Enrolment Report (PFIS-USER), tuition compliance, tuition set-aside, credit transfer reports, and other government compliance reports.  It also acts as a Ministry liaison, prepares the Strategic Mandate Agreement (SMA) Report Back, prepares institutional key performance indicators, and many other reports required by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU). It develops admission, enrolment, and tuition revenue projections, prepares the annual McMaster Fact Book, and reports on several other measures.

IRA supports the McMaster Institutional Quality Assurance Process (IQAP), the Research Centres and Institutes (RCI) membership, tagging of McMaster’s experiential learning courses, and provides analysis for bargaining. IRA responds to numerous data requests from groups that include but are not limited to the Council of Ontario Universities (COU) and its committees, Statistics Canada, Cubane’s UniForum, ranking agencies, the U15 Data Exchange (U15 DE), and the university community. IRA designs and administers surveys and works with key units and governing committees in support of a multitude of administrative and academic decision making, including course planning, multi-year planning, and resource allocation.
